Our theme this year was "Grow As Jesus Grew." And on Monday, June 9, 1997, we made our first steps toward this goal when we arrived as excited campers, eager to learn more abut Jesus.
Late Monday night, we were privileged to hear a sermon on "Stereo Types," by Elder Ron Yeakle.
Then, finally, a real camp day was here.
Tuesday. This started us off with Spirit-filled Bible Study Classes, many devotionals, choir, song services and of course, crafts. Later on Tuesday night we had a fun-filled carnival and eye-opening hymn-fest. We were introduced to many new singing talents at the "hymn-fest."
Wednesday night. Our plans were dampened by the rain and so we had to move the "campfire service" inside. Even though we were not in the woods and didn't have a fire, the presence of the Spirit was still felt by many.
Thursday night. We were entertained with many skits provided by each church. We even got to see "Elvis Presley."
Friday was a very sad day because we knew that it was almost time to say our goodbyes.
Overall it was a wonderful, memorable year at camp. We will always cherish the many memories, friends and knowledge that we gained at T.A.G. Camp [41st Tri-States Primitive Baptist Youth Conference].
Comments by Elder S. Khomer Beaty, Sr.
You will notice that Sister Amy did not show any dismay on account of the rain which we experienced the week of June 9-14, 1997. It was mentioned on different occasions that surely the Lord was guiding the wind and waves as it would rain in profusion immediately after classes were over.
There was a measure of "slop" around in the area which the small children enjoyed until someone would "shoo" them away from the mudholes.
Those of us who arrived Sunday the 8th, were in for a treat when the Middle Tennessee hills echoed in concert with the rolling thunder and bolts of shimmering lightning. All in all we slept snug and warm with one or two blankets in the coolness of springtime nights.
Yes, there was an air of sadness which pervaded the atmosphere as the time drew to a close with the Friday evening candlelight service.
Through the years (forty-seven) as it has been my opportunity to attend various youth camps, the Candlelight Service has always been the high-point for me. The joys, memories and friendships remembered have a way of drawing those closer and closer as we approach the parting hour.
In retrospect we have many things to be thankful to Our Lord for. As far as I know there were no serious accidents, injuries coming to, during, and God blessed all with safe passage home.
